Sassocorvaro
The origins of the village of Sassocorvaro not known precisely. The first written sources in which it is cited the Castle of Monte Rotondo, near the present site in the place where lies the town date back to 1061. Famous is the Rocca Ubaldinesca which saw the intervention of the Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini. This fortress was the headquarters of the rescue of over 10,000 works of art (including the Tempest by Giorgione, the City and many other great works of famous artists including Raphael, Piero della Francesca, Carlo Crivelli) that were hidden in the years 1943 -1944 by the Superintendent of Fine Arts in Urbino and Pesaro, Pasquale Rotondi, so that they were stolen by the Nazis fleeing to Germany.
